Do you want to make good goals that you can accomplish and feel proud of? Setting good goals can be hard, and accomplishing them can be even harder. But by making good goals, you can be successful, conquer difficulties, and achieve your dreams.

Make Your Goal Detailed

If you think about it, what’s a goal that isn’t detailed? That may be a dream, but in order to accomplish your dreams, you need goals. Goals must be planned out so they can be an easy-to-follow plan. Thus, they must be detailed.

First, you need to know the basics of your goal. What do you want to do? Maybe you want to trim all of the trees in your yard. Write down all of the tasks and goals you have, and be prepared to revise them. You should focus on the most important goals so you won’t feel overwhelmed. Prioritize the tasks and goals that you really want to achieve or finish the most. By prioritizing, you can have less unimportant goals, and actually have time to accomplish the important ones.

Once you have the basic goals written down, its time to be more specific. Have you written a time down for each of them? If you just want to trim all of the trees in your yard, you could easily do that in 20 years, but that’s no goal. Write down a time or date that you want to finish your goal by. A large goal would be: “I want to be at the top of my class in grad school by 2023”, while a medium-sized goal would look be: “I want to trim all eight trees in my backyard by February 3rd”.

So, try to analyze what your goals are, decide on how big they are, and choose a date accordingly. If a goal is detailed, then as long as it is reasonable, it should be easy to follow it.

Have a Way to Track Your Progress

Now, you need to track your progress. By tracking your progress, you can feel motivated if everything is going well, and you can assess the situation if your goal-accomplishing hasn’t been going so great. Here are some great ways to monitor your progress:

Have a calendar

You should have a calendar for your goals. Using the deadline for when your goal should be accomplished, check your calendar frequently to see your progress. If you want, you can even write out what part of your goal you did, so you can reflect back on your strategy later.

Break up goals into smaller pieces

If you break up your big and medium goals into smaller pieces, you’ll feel less stressed. If your goal has several parts, then each part would make an excellent mini-goal. You can put each mini-goal on your calendar for better tracking.

Assign points to bits of goals that are completed

You may like assigning points to each mini-goal that you complete. This could make you feel competitive, and it would encourage you to accomplish more.

Once you have an effective system of tracking your progress for achieving goals, you’ll be able to reward yourself for a good job, and you’ll be able to improve your technique in case something doesn’t go well.

Ensure That You Can Reach Your Goal

Of course, one last thing you should consider is to make sure that your goal is reachable. If the deadline is very far ahead, then it may not be best to plan for it now. If the goal seems simply unrealistic, then you should try to tweak the details, or consider a different goal. No matter what your goals are, you should be able to share them with a few other people. That way, they can help encourage you and track your progress, and they can tell you if they think a goal isn’t attainable. By having a detailed, attainable goal, and tracking your progress, you’ll be on your way to accomplishing the goals you have.
